The dark side

The movie begins with a newspaper clip on the notice board of another female student who had been murdered, beaten to a pulp with slit throat and a missing fourth finger (the one that usually wears a wedding ring), probably by the new serial killer with warnings to ladies to be cautious. As Annabel turns to rush to classes for lectures, she bundles herself on an ugly looking dirty elderly big bellied man whose abusive reaction didn’t warrant an apology. That was the first time she met ‘the old dirty bastard’ as she calls him.

Bella, Annabel’s friend invited her to a banquet where she saw the rich and famous Niran. His gentle touch, dance and caress on his date’s backside got Annabel fantasizing. She manages to get his number after he beat off competition in an auction for a Herbert Macaulay wrist watch. While leaving the ceremony, she spots ‘the old dirty bastard’ in a vehicle looking in her direction.

On getting home, she called Niran, flirted with him and identified herself as ‘the slayer’. He told her he has a girlfriend but she answered ‘it won’t hurt anyone if I get close. Will it?’  Her calls continued and even a facebook request was received from ‘the slayer’. She begins to nerve when she receives a call from ‘the old dirty bastard’ telling her to ‘stop stalking a man’.

One afternoon, she got beat by rain and ran into the restaurant she knew Niran usually had his lunch. Her phone rang and she told Bella she couldn’t come for lectures again because ‘I was beat by the rain and I’m wet. Very wet’. This seemed to amuse Niran who was closeby and they started a conversation. Eventually, he realized she was ‘slayer’.

They got close and a romantic relationship developed but Annabel will always see the ‘old dirty bastard’ stalking them, once even hiding behind a newspaper. Niran confronted him but he argued it was just a coincidence.

Trying to see Bella one day, she overheard in Bella’s room, ‘going to kill Annabel tonight and I mean it’. Realising the conversation was between Bella and ‘the old dirty bastard’, Annabel frights and runs away. She calls Niran and tells him about it and he promises her to ‘take care of it.’

Bode, Niran’s bodyguard is shown to knock on the glass of ‘the old dirty bastard’ and as he winds it down is landed a heavy punch that knocks him out.

Niran takes Annabel home because he’s not ‘too sure’ what Bella and ‘the old dirty bastard’ were up to. At home, Bella keeps calling Annabel but she refuses to pick, then she sees a picture of a woman whom Niran identified as his late mother and motivator. He tells her he has another set of accomplishments he will love her to see in his trophy room. As soon as the puts on the light of the room, Annabel sees bottles with fingers in it, hovering above the fingers are pictures of ladies including the three girls murdered in her school and that of his mother. Scared, she asks ‘what’s this?’ but with a wicked smile, he just closes the door.

‘The old dirty bastard’ wakes up in a room with bruises all over his face, manages to provoke Bode, the bodyguard and overpower him, takes the keys and drives away with his car.

Niran lands another punch on Annabel’s face and when she’s really weak tells her he always longed to have a room where he would beat women after what his mother did to his dad. His dad had suffered a heart attack after his drunken infidel mum refused to change and he hated every woman that was a cheat. He had murdered his own mother in this very room on a night there was no moon and he picked out those nights such as ‘today’ for his victory. ‘You are like my mother. A cheat. Told you I have a girlfriend but you didn’t care’ he explained soberly.

Niran brings out a knife and is about to slit open Annabel’s throat but is shot dead by ‘the old dirty bastard’ who comes in on time and saves her.

Annabel wakes up in the hospital and sees ‘the old dirty bastard’, he explains to her that he’s an undercover agent who was in charge of the case of the serial killer. He had always suspected Niran after some ‘facts’ but couldn’t question him without valid proof because he had some very powerful friends. On the day he spoke with Bella that frightened Annabel, he received a call on the pattern of the deaths, all the deaths were a night without the moon. And he was trying to warn her. He finally had something to hold against Niran when he was attacked by Bode.

Annabel apologises to him for everything, thanks him and asks what his name was but with a smile he says ‘Just call me the old dirty bastard’
