A
PLAYER AND A FOOL
GENRE:
DRAMA
Movie begins when Nike,
with her three month old baby, walks into Aisha’s office, an event planner, for
appropriate planning of her fifth year wedding anniversary. Both women seem to
flow along pretty well. While Aisha excuses herself to bring a catalogue,
Ramsey, Nike’s husband, enters seemingly late. Aisha returns but upon seeing
Ramsey is shocked. Her failure to hide her shock prompts Nike to ask if they
knew themselves and they replied they attended the same university.
Meanwhile, they were
ex-lovers back then in the university and Aisha lost her virginity to Ramsey, a
guy who never showed her much attention in school and was just a big time
player. She had also done a series of abortion for Ramsey and he walked out of
her life the very day he finished his last paper. That was the last time they
ever saw. But Aisha been a vulnerable lady was troubled. He’s now happily
married with two kids while she is just beginning a relationship with Dele, a
good guy but upcoming writer. First loves are hard to ignore and seeing him
today reignites that fire she thought was dead. She confides in her friend,
Mercy at a bar that evening and tells her friend she has a lot of questions to
ask him about the past. Mercy tells her to be professional about her work,
maybe handover to her assistant if she feels she’s emotionally tied because
‘the no contact rule’ should be applied in that situation and it’s of no use
seeing him. Moreover, if Dele knows she met Ramsey he will be hurt because
cheating doesn’t begin with sexual intercourse but at the point where you
hiding a contact with another party and Aisha sarcastically closed the issue.
The next day, Ramsey
shows up at Aisha’s office and does the normal regularly introductory and
business talk, compliments Aisha as looking gorgeous and asks her out to dinner
in which Aisha approves with a little fake reluctance……’what about your wife
and kids?’ ‘They are at her parents place’. He replied.
That evening, they,
Ramsey and Aisha, catch up on old times. She asks him if he really loved her
back then in school in which he replied that he did and still does but was
afraid of showing her because he didn’t want to lose her after watching how
Dare used that tactic to keep his girl in Romeo’s movie, Rebound (you should see that movie too). And he lost his phone and
her contact during the celebration after the last paper. He was subsequently
posted to Kaduna for service and went for Masters in the UK afterwards and
never stopped thinking about her.
‘I’m sorry dear. I
could have tried to reach you too. But I was hurt. I was scared of rejection.
Well, you are happily married now. It was great meeting you and seeing you
doing well’ a naïve Aisha said.
‘You can see my first
daughter is five years old. I had her six months after my wedding. When I came
back from the UK, I met Nike. I just wanted to have fun with her but she got
pregnant. I didn’t really love her but had to marry her. Just thought enough of
killing my kids’ he said with a little smile. ‘No much attraction between us
and it’s taken more than four years for her to conceive again. You are the only
one my heart ever beats for, the only woman that ever put tears in my eyes. I
know you loved me then and still do. I can tell from the way you look at me. I
assure you it’s mutual. I have thought about you 40 seconds of every minute
since we saw yesterday. I’m glad I met you’. An obviously word-swept Aisha
moans slowly and with a closed eye meets her lips on Ramsey’s then they both
pull back and apologise to themselves.
Aisha gets home to meet
Dele, her boyfriend, in the dining table waiting for her before he eats at past
11. He doesn’t overly question her when she says she’s been working late but is
hurt when she doesn’t want to eat as she had stopped by an eatery. The subsequent
scenes shows Aisha meeting Ramsey often and beginning another sexual
relationship and Aisha been a dominant character in her relationship with Dele
and taking him for granted. Once Ramsey drops Aisha off at her place and is
confronted by Dele, who mocks him as a ‘full time house boyfriend’ and when you
buy a car, then can confront guys that drop beautiful ladies’ at their
doorstep, something Aisha found amusing. She had also stopped having sex with
Dele.
Aisha becomes pregnant
again and tells Ramsey she is a month pregnant. ‘Tomorrow is my fifth wedding
anniversary. An event that is planned by you. You know this can tear our lives
apart’ Ramsey says.
‘What do we do now? I
want to have your baby’ Aisha says amid sobs.
‘I do too but the
timing is just bad. I would have wanted us to start ‘fucking’ after the
anniversary but you just irrestible’ he says and is over her in kisses again.
‘Please stop. Now it’s
happened, what do we do?’
‘We have to remove it
and I can pick up a quarrel with Nike and file for a divorce but with this
child before that period; I’d be left with nothing. We have to be patient baby.
I love you and I want to marry you. Just this last time’ Ramsey convinces.
‘You sure?’ Aisha asks.
‘I love you’ he says
and climbs over her another time.
Confused, Aisha
shamefully tells Mercy everything who is exasperated. He’s a player and you’re
just a fool. Can’t you see? Everything that happened is repeating itself. It’s
cyclical. He can’t leave his wife for you. I know first love is hard but use
your head, it thinks, the heart doesn’t. How can you do that to another woman? I’d script the scold later.
Madam Ola, a friend to
Nike, unknowingly to Ramsey, owns the hotel where Aisha and Ramsey regularly
spend time together. She had no intention of breaking up a home but couldn’t
take it anymore when she sees the cheaters having a quickie in the rest room of
the hall on Ramsey’s fifth year anniversary. She considered that an abomination
and decided to tell Nike with a big plan in place, something Nike needed to be
persuaded to do.
Ramsey and Aisha, pick
up their room key to have their escapades amidst, kissing and laughters and on
opening the door, finds Nike (wrapper over her breast) and Dele (shirtless) in
bed (both at extreme ends of the bed). On seeing his wife in bed with another
man, Ramsey instantly falls and faints and Aisha screams ‘Dele! Dele!’ Madam
Ola and a few others come out of their hiding places and rushes Ramsey to the
hospital. Madam Ola’s plan was to cheat on the cheaters and they couldn’t
handle it.
In the hospital ward,
Nike confronts Aisha, calling her names and disrespectful to the marriage
institution. Aisha admits and begs for forgiveness vowing to stay away forever
and admitting only a whore doesn’t care about another woman’s feeling.
When Ramsey was
stabilized, Nike goes to see him. Mocks him on dishing out what he can’t eat
and mockery of his masculinity in fainting. He apologises and promises to be a
good husband and father to his wife and children. Nike says though she’s hurt,
she wouldn’t let that break her home as she also once thought about killing
Aisha because ‘I thought if her heart stopped beating then mine will stop
bleeding’ but God forgives sin. She will give him another chance.
Dele picks up his
things and tells Aisha he’s leaving her for good and also got a big publishing
house (Romeo publishers….lol) who were interested in his new proposal- The
player and the fool. ‘He was the player and you are the fool. It’s back to zero
point for you and remember time isn’t on your side’.
When Dele leaves, Aisha
falls down and passes a message to other single girls out there deliberately
having affairs with married men urging them to respect the emotions of not only
the other wives but their own boyfriends.
‘And as for you Ramsey, the story has just begun. You would never be a player
again when you don’t have the instrument to play with. This I promise you. I
swear’
THE
END
